Abstract We present an initial characterization of the input of 129 I into the Pacific Ocean resulting from the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident. This characterization is based primarily on 129 I measurements on samples collected from a research cruise conducted in waters off the eastern coast of Japan in June 2011. Atmospheric 129 I deposition was studied in different locations of Japan (Akita, Tsukuba, Tokyo, and Ishigaki Island) with samples collected between 1963 and 2005 in order to understand the distribution and sources of this nuclide and provide a reference deposition level prior to the Fukushima accident. Radioiodine (129I) poses a risk to the environment due to its long half-life, toxicity, and mobility. It is found at the U.S. Department of Energy Hanford Site due to legacy releases of nuclear wastes to the subsurface where 129I is predominantly present as iodate (IO3–). The distribution of •29I in the major water masses sampled provides an excellent illustration of the unique source function of 1291, which results in stronger labeling of the northern-source overflow Surface seawater samples collected from the North Sea and English Channel were analyzed for total 129I and 127I, as well as for iodide and iodate. Relatively high 129I concentrations (2-3 x 10(11) atoms/L) were observed in the northern part of the English Channel and in the southeastern North Sea. © COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA, 2010 1298i (Design date 04/10) - Page 1 Citizenship fees Form 1298i www.citizenship.gov.au Telephone 131 880 during business hours in We constrain the last r-process source by comparing the measured meteoritic ratio 129I/247Cm = 438 ± 184 with nucleosynthesis calculations based on neutron star merger and magneto-rotational supernova simulations.

We constrain the last r-process source by comparing the measured meteoritic ratio 129I/247Cm = 438 ± 184 with nucleosynthesis calculations based on neutron star merger and magneto-rotational supernova simulations. Moderately neutron-rich conditions, often found in merger disk ejecta simulations, are most consistent with the meteoritic value. We evaluated the migration of radionuclides (131I, 129I, 134Cs, 136Cs, 137Cs, and 132Te) in the surface soil after the Fukushima nuclear accident. The radionuclides in the soil collected late March
Iodine-129 (129I) Iodine-129 (129 I) is a rare long-lived radio-isotope of Iodine.Iodine-129 called a cosmogenic nuclide, because it is created by energetic cosmic rays impacting matter in a fission reaction, called spallation. Iodine-129. iodine-129 atom. 15046-84-1.

Despite the common incorporation of iodine in the biological cycle and occurrence of huge contamination of the radioactive isotope (129)I in the Baltic Proper, Skagerrak and Kattegat, there is no data on chemical speciation of iodine in these waters. The 129I was measured by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) whereas 127I was measured by an ICP-MS. The results reveal considerable differences of 129I concentration and its species in terms of spatial and temporal variability. Concentration of 129I appears to be consistently lower in the surface compared to deep waters.
